On July 12, the highly anticipated Phone (1) smartphone will be released worldwide and in India. The UK-based tech business that unveiled its first TWS earphones - Nothing Ear (1) last year - has already provided some information about its first smartphone before of the official launch.

Review of the Motorola Edge 30: A real flagship challenger?

By introducing the Edge 30 last month, Motorola expanded the Edge 30 line in India. The smartphone boasts a lot of unique features, but one of its best selling points is that it is the thinnest phone ever made. Slim phones are now quite rare on the market. Xiaomi launched the Mi 11 Lite last year in an effort to slightly alter the status quo, but Motorola has already supplanted Xiaomi. The Moto Edge 30 is not only the thinnest phone on the market right now, but its feature set also makes it a rather reliable pick for less than Rs 30,000.
The Moto Edge 30 has a pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a 50-primary sensor, and is powered by a Snapdragon 778+ CPU. Design
Although they may not be the most attractive products on the market, Motorola phones are incredibly useful and fulfil all the needs. With the Motorola Edge 30, the business has, at the very least, made an effort to alter how users view their phones. The Edge 30 is also really comfortable to use all day long and has a firm hand feel.
Perhaps the slimmest and lightest phone I have used in a while is the Edge 30. It is 6.79mm thick and only 155 grammes thick. Its nearest rival, the Mi 11 Lite 5G, weighs 158 grammes and measures 6.8 mm in thickness.
The smartphone has a polycarbonate back and a top finish made of PMMA-acrylic glass. As opposed to the glossy plastic finish found on the majority of phones in this category, the frames have a matte texture. The good news is that the phone does not appear at all cheap despite having a polycarbonate casing. The rear panel is a fingerprint magnet, which is not so great. Therefore, you must use a TPU case with the phone.
Although the Motorola Edge 30 has the same flat-edged design as the iPhone 12, my palms are not cut by it. Although they have a flat edge design, the edges are still curled and provide a secure hold. Since I primarily use the iPhone 13, I prefer smartphones with flat edges to those with curved rear panels, yet the majority of people will prefer the Moto Edge 30's design due to how comfortable it is in the hand.
The Motorola Edge 30 has a rectangular camera module with three camera sensors and an LED flashlight on the back panel. From the back panel, the camera module rockets off a little. The phone wobbles a lot when kept on a flat surface. The SIM tray, USB Type-C connector, and speaker are located at the bottom of the phone, with the volume rockers and power button on the right side. The buttons make one-handed operation simple and provide tactile feedback.
Display
The 6.5-inch FHD+ display on the Motorola Edge 30 employs a pOLED screen and enables a high refresh rate of up to 144Hz. On a midrange phone, this is the highest I have ever observed. The refresh rate on the majority of these phones has been limited to 120Hz. The Motorola Edge 30's fast refresh rate makes scrolling and gaming incredibly fluid.
A 10-bit panel, which generates a billion colours, is supported with the display. The bezels are reasonably thin along the chin but fairly narrow around the corners, which makes for an excellent viewing experience. The Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top shields the screen.
The smartphone has good viewing angles and somewhat accurate colour reproduction. The phone's refresh rate was automatically set to 90 Hz, but it did occasionally change to 144 Hz. However, there is a choice to lock the refresh rate to 144Hz if you want to always enjoy fluid menu scrolling.
Performance
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778+ processor powers the Motorola Edge 30 along with 6GB and 128GB storage options. It is interesting to note that the Edge 30 is the first phone in India to have the Snapdragon 778+.
The phone completed the fundamental duties without any glitches throughout my little time with it. I generally used my computer for light photo editing, playing games, and watching TV episodes and movies. On the Edge 30, the apps loaded more quickly, and switching between them is also not a problem. The dual speaker that comes with the phone significantly improved the movie experience. The speaker output is loud and full-bodied.
Battery The Motorola Edge 30 has a meagre 4500mAh battery, although even some low-cost phones now have a 6000mAh battery.
Because the Motorola Edge 30 has a smaller battery than its rivals, I was concerned about how long the battery would last. To fit the battery into a tiny form factor, Motorola has made it smaller.
The Edge 30, however, surprised me by lasting all day, including 5–6 hours of screen time, on just one charge. With a 5000mAh battery, it performs equally well as any other phone. A 33W charger is included with the Edge 30. The phone needs a little over an hour to entirely recharge.

The Vivo V23 5G, which was introduced earlier this year, has a lot to offer in terms of selfies. The phone also has a modern appearance that could draw in a lot of youthful users. However, it lacks an IP rating and the smartphone has a sizable amount of bloatware, which clogs up the basic user interface. However, it also has excellent cameras, which Nothing Phone 1 will need to improve upon.
