The third-largest Mega Millions jackpot award in history and the fourth-largest in all of American history.
ATLANTA - The jackpot prize for the Tuesday, July 26 Mega Millions drawing has climbed to an estimated annuitized $830 million due to continued strong ticket sales.
The jackpot is the fourth-largest award in U.S. lottery history and the third-largest jackpot in the history of the game. The estimated cash value of Tuesday's drawing is $487.9 million. If there isn't a jackpot winner in tonight's Mega Millions drawing, the jackpot payout will roll over to an estimated annuitized $1.025 billion on Friday, July 29.
According to Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, "Mega Millions sales continue to be high for the Texas Lottery during the current jackpot run, generating much-needed income for public education in the state of Texas.
As the anticipation for Tuesday night's drawing grows, we're crossing our fingers that the jackpot winner is a Texas Lottery® player. Most importantly, we want to stress the importance of playing responsibly to our gamers. To win, all you need is one ticket.
The current Mega Millions jackpot run, which began as an estimated annuitized $20 million for the drawing on April 19, will reach its 29th drawing on Tuesday.
The second-largest jackpot payout in the history of the game, which was won by an out-of-state player, was believed to have reached $1.05 billion in the Jan. 22, 2021 drawing, when the game's jackpot was last at this size.
Since Texas joined the game in 2003, there have been 13 winners of the Mega Millions jackpot. The most recent jackpot winner was a Leander resident who received an estimated annuitized $227 million in September 2019. This was the biggest reward ever given to one Texas Lottery player.
Five Texas Lottery participants have won second-tier Mega Millions prizes of $1 million or more since the year 2022 began, including two during the current jackpot draw. For the May 13 drawing, a Houston resident claimed a second-tier prize of $1,000,510, and for the June 17 drawing, a resident of Ingram claimed a second-tier prize of $2,000,000.
Picking five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from a second field of 25 numbers is how Mega Millions is played. Players must match all six numbers selected, including the Mega Ball, in order to win the Mega Millions jackpot. Even though they might not win the jackpot, players who match fewer numbers could still be successful.
The beginning jackpot for Mega Millions is now $20 million, while the second-tier (Match 5+0) payout is $1 million. Players can multiply their non-jackpot earnings by two, three, four, or five times by selecting the Megaplier® feature for $1 more per Play, with the potential to win up to $5 million.
Every Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 p.m. CT, drawings are broadcast. Mega Millions tickets are available for purchase from more than 20,000 Texas Lottery stores throughout the state.
The sale of Mega Millions tickets will end on Tuesday, July 26 at 9:45 p.m. CT. A store may be eligible for up to a $1 million retailer incentive if they sell a Mega Millions ticket that wins the jackpot.
