ZTE's Axon 40 series was first introduced to the Chinese market in May, and the Axon 40 Pro is now offered in other countries for prices starting at $499 (or €499, or £439 for the 8/128GB trim) and $599 (or €599, or £529) for the 12/256GB model. Both are immediately available for purchase through the official ZTE store in either black or blue.
The Axon 40 Pro features a 6.67-inch 144 Hz AMOLED display, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 870 CPU, and a 100MP main camera, but not the under-display camera of its Ultra sister. Additionally, the phone features a 5,000 mAh battery with 66W rapid charging and runs Android 12 under MyOS 12.

On May 9, 2022, ZTE Axon 40 Pro receives a formal announcement.
The smartphone has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm SM8250-AC Snapdragon 870 5G CPU. There are 395 PPIs per inch.
The smartphone has a quad-camera configuration with a 100 MP (wide) + 8 MP (ultrawide) + 2 MP (macro) + 2 MP camera on the back (depth). There is a 16 MP (wide) front-facing camera on the device.
The sensors include an optical under-display fingerprint reader, an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and a compass. It also has 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB or 512 GB of internal storage, and an Adreno 650 GPU.
A 5000 mAh Li-ion non-removable battery and Fast Charging 66W + Quick Charge 4+ + USB Power Delivery 3.0 with PPS power the ZTE Axon 40 Pro. It comes in a variety of colours, including Blue, Gold, and Black.
