OLED iPad Pro 2024: What to Expect from Apple's Next-Gen Tablet

Apple's iPad Pro is already one of the most powerful and versatile tablets on the market, but it could get even better in 2024.

According to several reports and rumors, Apple is planning to introduce a major update to the iPad Pro line next year, featuring OLED displays, a new keyboard dock, and a faster M3 chip. Here's everything we know so far about the OLED iPad Pro 2024.

OLED Displays:

One of the most anticipated features of the OLED iPad Pro 2024 is the switch from LCD or mini-LED to OLED screen technology.

OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode, and it offers several advantages over other display types. OLED screens can produce deeper blacks, higher contrast, wider viewing angles, and more accurate colors than LCD or mini-LED screens.

OLED screens can also be thinner and lighter, as they do not require a backlight.

Apple has been using OLED screens for its iPhone models since 2017, but it has not yet adopted them for its iPads or MacBooks.

However, that could change in 2024, as several sources have claimed that Apple is developing OLED panels for larger devices like iPads and MacBooks.

Display analyst Ross Young confirmed to MacRumors that Apple is working on 11.1-inch and 13-inch OLED iPad Pro models that will come out in the first quarter of 2024.

Young previously predicted that the new iPad Pro models would have slightly larger screen sizes than the current 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, which could mean slimmer bezels or a smaller footprint.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also reported that the 2024 iPad Pro will feature OLED displays, saying that the panels should be "crisper and brighter" and "reproduce colors more accurately" than the current mini-LED or LCD displays.

Gurman said that the OLED iPad Pro will be the "first major update to the product since 2018."

New Keyboard Dock:

Another big change that could come with the OLED iPad Pro 2024 is a new keyboard dock that will make the iPad look more like a MacBook.

Gurman revealed that Apple is planning to revamp the Magic Keyboard, making "the iPad Pro look even more like a laptop than the current setup" while adding a "larger trackpad."

Gurman also said that the new Magic Keyboard will have an aluminum top case for the first time, matching recent Mac laptops.

This could make the keyboard look more premium and durable, as Gurman said that the current model is prone to bending and tearing at the edges.

The new Magic Keyboard will still have a cover material on its exterior shell when closed, and it will still have one USB-C port, according to Gurman.

The new keyboard dock could be a significant improvement for those who want to use their iPad Pro as a laptop replacement, as it could offer a more comfortable and familiar typing experience, as well as more functionality and versatility.

Faster M3 Chip:

The last major upgrade that we can expect from the OLED iPad Pro 2024 is a faster M3 chip. The M3 chip is the next-generation processor that Apple is expected to launch in its new Macs later this year.

The M3 chip will be based on TSMC's 3nm process, which should offer better performance and efficiency than the current M2 chip, which is based on 5nm.

The M2 chip already powers the 2022 iPad Pro models, and it offers impressive speed and power for a tablet. However, the M3 chip could take things to another level, as it could enable more advanced features and capabilities for the iPad Pro, such as better multitasking, gaming, video editing, augmented reality, and more.

The M3 chip could also help with battery life and thermal management, as it could consume less power and generate less heat than the M2 chip.

This could be especially important for the OLED iPad Pro models, as OLED screens tend to use more power than LCD or mini-LED screens.

Conclusion:

The OLED iPad Pro 2024 could be one of the most exciting products from Apple next year, as it could offer a significant upgrade over its predecessors in terms of display quality, keyboard design, and processor speed.

The OLED iPad Pro could also be a compelling alternative to a MacBook for some users, as it could offer a similar laptop-like experience with more portability and versatility.

However, there are still some unknowns and challenges that Apple will have to overcome with the OLED iPad Pro 2024. For example, we don't know how much the new tablet will cost, or how it will handle issues like burn-in or brightness degradation that can affect OLED screens over time.

We also don't know if Apple will improve the software of the iPad Pro to make it more macOS-like, as some users have been requesting.

In any case, we will have to wait until next year to see what Apple has in store for the OLED iPad Pro 2024. Until then, we can only hope that the rumors and reports are true and that Apple will deliver a tablet that will blow us away.
