The Top 5 Video Games in 2023.
This year has been a great one for video games, with options for almost every taste and tilt. Nintendo, widely known for family-friendly classics, continued to surprise us, and old favorites made unexpected returns. With so many options, choosing the five best games was difficult—but we did it anyway.
The Legend of Zelda: Kingdom Tears:
On paper, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom appears to be a straightforward improvement: Take the smash hit Breath of the Wild from 2017, add vehicle building and item combining, and let the gamers wild.
But Nintendo accomplished so much with Tears of the Kingdom that we're not sure where the franchise will go from here. Breath of the Wild was a triumph that recreated the Zelda series with a modern, open-world concept and whole new traversal and combat mechanisms enabling unprecedented player freedom in the series.
Tears of the Kingdom expanded on that basis by adding two additional, enormous zones that let you explore Hyrule's skies as well as catacombs beneath the map's surface.
The amount of space you may explore is daunting, but the game provides you with new building abilities that you can utilize to craft (hopefully) functional vehicles like hot-air balloons, motorcycles, and wagons.
You can also combine materials to create weapons with odd effects and special powers, tow Koroks around, and build almost any contraption you can imagine.
We were drawn in by the epic, time-traveling story of Tears of the Kingdom, but we stayed to acquire our Hylian degrees in mechanical engineering.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor:
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the follow-up to the popular Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, surpasses the first game in almost every aspect.
Jedi Survivor is a graphically spectacular showpiece for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S that takes the exploration and action of Fallen Order and expands it in every aspect.
It is set five years after the original (and about the same time as the Disney+ show Obi-Wan Kenobi).
Survivor is one of those unusual sequels that begins with all of the previous game's abilities and expands from there, making new puzzles and combat experiences to enhance the foundation that the first game laid.
It is a vast, fantastic Star Wars experience with fantastic characters, an intriguing plot, and a large environment (galaxy?) to explore.
Baldur’s Gate 3:
Your goals and ambitions have been fulfilled if you've been dying for an epic fantasy adventure where you can uncover legendary riches and villains, romance your allies, and, well, roll around like a big block of cheese for a while.
During a lengthy early access period, Baldur's Gate 3, the third installment in the PC role-playing game series based on the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe, created a great deal of excitement.
Baldur's Gate 3 was a massive game with a great deal of flexibility and possibilities, along with an epic plot, plenty of interesting characters to meet (and romance), plus co-op play. Its arrival in September confirmed that the expectation was well-founded.
A game like Baldur's Gate 3 is rare; despite its complex rules and frequently challenging gameplay, it appeals to those who aren't easily put off by focus groups or safe choices.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder:
Mario delivered a truly innovative spin on the beloved, two-dimensional Super Mario Bros. formula after more than ten years of waiting.
The four-player format that Super Mario Bros. Wonder introduced with New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii is now enhanced with Internet play.
Additionally, it ups the ante by shifting the action to the strange and unstable Flower Kingdom, where chaos seeds entirely alter the levels you play in and the people you control.
This adds even more turmoil to the equation. Although Nintendo has had a lot of success this year, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is still unique.
Being strange, incredibly creative, and frequently heart-stoppingly amusing, it's among the greatest games of 2023 and the Switch in general.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2:
One of the greatest heroic games ever was the 2018 Spider-Man reboot, and the new one this year is even better.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 offers the unparalleled chance to experience life from Spider-Man's perspective once more.
This time, though, you get to play Spider-Man as both Miles Morales and Peter Parker, switching between the two personas to use their unique combat styles and skills to fend off fresh threats to the city.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2's open-world version of New York City invites players to explore Brooklyn and Queens in addition to its already stunning depiction of Manhattan, going beyond the confines of the first game. Since the combat is smooth, loud, and badass, and because web-slinging and wall-crawling around the city feels so enjoyable, this is one of the rare open-world games where fast travel feels unnecessary.
